Why every Etsy seller should know their real fees

Etsy's fees look small one at a time, but they stack. On a typical sale you pay a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price and the shipping you charge, plus a payment processing fee set by the country your bank account is in — 3% + $0.25 in the US, 4% + £0.20 in the UK, 4% + €0.30 across most of the EU. Sellers in nine countries pay a Regulatory Operating fee on top; US sellers do not. Turn on Offsite Ads and another 15% can come off that same sale. Added up, Etsy usually takes somewhere around 9–11% of a typical order for a US seller and more elsewhere, plus the fixed cents — before you've paid for materials.

📋 Listing Fee — $0.20
Charged for every listing you create or renew (auto-renews every 4 months). Also charged per quantity sold.
💳 Transaction Fee — 6.5%
Applied to the total sale amount (item price + shipping). This is Etsy's main marketplace commission.
🏦 Payment Processing — 3% + $0.25
Charged by Etsy Payments for processing the buyer's payment (credit card, Apple Pay, etc.).
📜 Regulatory Operating Fee — 9 countries only
Covers Etsy's compliance costs in countries that regulate it. Applied to item price plus shipping, and charged only in Canada (0.50%), France (1.14%), Hungary (1.97%), India (0.05%), Italy (0.80%), Spain (0.88%), Türkiye (1.67%), the UK (0.48%) and Vietnam (1.24%). US sellers pay nothing here.

Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee (per item quantity) and a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, everywhere in the world. The payment processing fee depends on where your bank account is: 3% + $0.25 in the US, 4% + £0.20 in the UK, 4% + €0.30 across most of the EU. Sellers in nine countries — Canada, France, Hungary, India, Italy, Spain, Türkiye, the UK and Vietnam — also pay a Regulatory Operating fee, between 0.05% and 1.97% depending on the country. How much does Etsy take from a $30 sale?
For a US seller, a $30 sale with no shipping and no offsite ads costs about $3.30 in total fees: $0.20 listing + $1.95 transaction (6.5%) + $1.15 payment processing (3% + $0.25). That leaves $26.70 before your cost of goods. There is no Regulatory Operating fee in the US, so nothing is added on top. The same sale for a UK seller costs about £3.69, because UK processing is 4% + £0.20 and a 0.48% Regulatory Operating fee applies.
How is the Etsy payment processing fee calculated?
Etsy Payments charges 3% of the total order amount (item price + shipping) plus a flat $0.25 per order. For a $30 order that's $0.90 + $0.25 = $1.15. The exact percentage can vary slightly by country, so treat it as the standard US rate.
What are Etsy Offsite Ads fees, and when do they apply?
Offsite Ads promote your listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Bing and Etsy's partner network. You only pay the fee when a buyer clicks one of those ads and then purchases from your shop within 30 days. Shops that have never made $10,000 USD in any consecutive 365-day period can opt out and pay 15% when enrolled; once a shop passes $10,000, participation is required for the lifetime of the shop, at a reduced 12%. The fee for any single order is capped at $100. This calculator applies whichever rate matches the toggle you choose.
Does this calculator include taxes or VAT?
No. This tool calculates Etsy's platform fees and your profit before any income tax, sales tax or VAT. Tax rules depend on your country and where your buyers are, so check your local requirements or an accountant for those.
How do I price my product to actually make a profit?
Work backwards rather than forwards. Adding a percentage on top of your cost does not give you that percentage as a margin, because Etsy's fees scale with the price — charge $15 for a $10 item and a US seller keeps $3.13, which is 20.8%, not 50%.
