What this Etsy keyword tool measures

Etsy does not publish search volume for its own search bar. Every “Etsy search volume” number you see in a paid tool is an estimate built from other signals. This free Etsy keyword tool does something more honest: it measures relative demand for your keyword from Google Trends over the last five years, tells you the month it peaks, and shows which related phrases are climbing right now. On the paid plans it also reads the real number of Etsy listings competing for your search. You get a 0–100 demand index that ranks keywords against each other inside your niche, not a made-up monthly count.

Use it for three jobs: picking the phrase that goes first in your title, deciding which of two similar phrases deserves one of your 13 tags, and timing a seasonal listing so it is live 6–8 weeks before the peak month.

How we measure demand without inventing search volume

  1. You type a seed keyword (for example “ceramic mug”). We expand it into the phrases buyers actually type, using Google, Amazon and eBay suggestions.
  2. Each phrase is scored against Google Trends for the last 12 months and the last 5 years. The score is indexed 0–100 within the set, so a 92 means “near the top of this niche”, not “92 searches”.
  3. We label every row: Measured when a Trends series exists, Autocompletewhen only the suggestion signal exists — so you always know which number to trust.
  4. Peak month, low month and year-over-year direction come from the same series. Nothing is estimated from a model.

Overview for “soy candle”: demand is rising year over year, peaks in February and is lowest in July. That peak and trend are one read for the whole niche, not a separate figure per keyword — the index column is what ranks the phrases against each other.

How to use these keywords in your title, tags and description

Title: state what the item is once, lead with the trait that matters most, and keep it under 15 words (Etsy’s 2026 guidance). Tags: use all 13, each under 20 characters, multi-word, with no repeats of the title phrase. Description: the first two lines carry the primary phrase in plain language; the rest describes materials, sizes and use cases.

Etsy keyword tool — questions

Is this Etsy keyword tool really free?

Yes. Two searches a day need no account. A free account gives you three a day, your top 10 keyword ideas and five years of history. No card.

Why don’t you show Etsy search volume?

Because Etsy does not publish it and nobody outside Etsy has it. We show measured relative demand instead, labelled by source.

Where does the demand data come from?

Google Trends (5 years, weekly), plus Google, Amazon and eBay suggestions for phrase discovery. Live Etsy competition — listing counts, ad share and the price band — is on the paid plans.

What does the 0–100 index mean?

Ranking within your niche set: 100 is the strongest phrase in the set. Compare phrases to each other, not to other niches.

Do other tools show more?

Some paid tools show an estimated monthly search volume. Etsy doesn’t publish that number, so it’s a model’s guess. We’d rather measure real demand from public data and label every row by source — so you can trust what you act on.

How many keywords do I see?

The top 6 without an account; the top 10 with a free account; up to 100 on paid plans.

Does it work for digital products?

Yes. Run the buyer phrase (“printable planner”, “svg bundle”) rather than the file type.

What is the peak month for?

List 6–8 weeks before it, so Etsy has time to rank the listing before demand climbs.

Can I see five years of history?

Yes, in the Keyword History Explorer, which is free with a free account.

Do you store my searches?

Only an anonymous daily counter per IP, to enforce the free limit. The keywords you type are not saved to your account without one.
